Creating My Own Way

A Unique Approach to Developing Your
Homeschool Style

Have you ever thought about what your homeschool style is? Homeschool style refers to the way you homeschool your children. Some families prefer to mimic conventional school while others prefer to go completely opposite and unschool. Some follow a ready-made curriculum by the book, others choose to make their own. Where do you fall? I fall somewhere in the middle.

Over the years, I have come into my own unique style, through much trial and error. The key for me is to be flexible and adapt to my kids as they grow. I hope I can help you do the same just without so much trial and error, of course. ;-)

I am very eclectic in my approach, better yet, my homeschool style is multifaceted. (Just saying eclectic, doesn't seem like enough.) Getting into the why and how might help me to better explain it. I want to help my children learn and grow the best way they can, not force a standardized approach on them. My goal is to learn alongside my children as they learn, how they learn. I want to guide them in the right direction or offer assistance when they follow their own path. Everyday, every moment is a learning opportunity and we take full advantage of this!

I don’t “school-at-home”, meaning we don’t have every day planned out with a set amount of time for each subject that must be covered. No matter what it may look like sometimes, we do not have total and complete chaos either, well, not all of the time. I have tried many different styles and found little nuggets of gold in each one. I prefer to mix and match, so that I can better accommodate each child's own unique way of learning. The only constant that I feel is super important to mention, at least for my family is hands-on activities, I always add on as many as possible to whatever we are doing. Honestly, the hands-on activities are where the magic happens with my kids. It is almost always during one of these activities that the concepts they are learning really sink in. These “Ah-ha” moments make it all worthwhile.

I wholeheartedly suggest that you try different things until you find what works best for you and your child. Take your time, find your rhythm. Create your own way. That's part of the beauty of homeschooling, isn't it?

None of us are alone, we can take this journey together!

About

Hi, I'm Dianna!
So glad you are here.

I'm a homeschool mom of three, a coach and an educator. I enjoy being able to offer guidance, support and inspiration to other homeschooling families.

I truly believe that sometimes it actually does take a village (as the saying goes), so I decided to start this blog to continue to build my community.

My hope is that by sharing my adventures, and some lessons learned along the way, I can help make someone else’s homeschool journey just a little bit easier.
